A deposit of £15 is due upon booking, the remainder amount is due to the tutor on the day.

Designed for those who are already familiar with free motion embroidery techniques, the aim of this course is to produce a decorative tile from fabric stitched and embellished like an illuminated letter. This would be a perfect gift as a framed picture for a friend or partner, a new baby or child. Add further letters at home to create the whole name. Equally you could create the letter to cover a notebook, or as a patch for a bag.

We will use the manuscripts and the Arts and Crafts Movement as inspiration for our 6” square. You will use an imitation leather to create your letter and will then attach it to the base fabric that you will then decorate.

Your finished artwork will be ready to mount and frame.

What you will do:

Learn about basic design and how to use inspirational images to create a whole new piece.

Transform a basic fabric into a new surface to decorate using stitch and fabric paints

Transfer the design from paper to fabric

Stitch, quilt and further embellish your tile

Stretch and lace your tile ready for mounting

What will be provided:

Cotton drill for the base fabric – fabric for you letter

Paper and carbon paper

Paints

Paintbrushes

wadding and other quilting materials

mountboard squares

upholstery thread for mounting

Please make sure you are familiar with your machine and that you know how to change thread, feet and know how to lower your feed dogs. If you are new to a machine then contact Katie at K&B Sewing Machines who can give you a 1:1 lesson.
